Mozambique Hotels: Benguerra Lodge on the largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago
Benguerra Lodge is located on the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago, in Mozambique. The lodge is situated on the protected Northwest side of Benguerra Island, which was declared a National Park in 1971.
It’s an intimate lodge with a Moroccan feel, offering total relaxation on a beautiful stretch of beach.
OVERVIEW.
The lodge has got a Moroccan Décor, rich colours and textures bring the feel of the African bush to the beach. Benguerra has been decorated in earthy, Moroccan colours with terracotta walls and thick fabrics in rich reds and vibrant oranges.
There is a space to Relax - casitas have large decks with a plunge pool/Jacuzzi, hammock and thatched gazebo.
The Mozambican staff is warm, friendly, efficient, and speak very good English.
Benguerra Lodge is protected by a natural acacia forest bordering Benguerra Bay with its coral reefs, turquoise seas and huge stretch of squeaky white beach. The main lodge building has a gift shop, comfortable lounge area and small spa. Birds are attracted to the surrounding indigenous forest, which also provides some much needed shade in the heat of the day.
You can choose to do as much or as little as you wish. You can go scuba diving and snorkeling on Two Mile Reef, or stretch out in the shade of your thatched sala on the beautiful beach. One of the main attractions is world class deep sea and saltwater fly fishing. Other activities worth mentioning include sea kayaking, island tours and boat trips to Pansy Island, a unique breeding ground for the legendary pansy shell.

Meals at Benguerra Lodge are fresh from the sea; with delicacies such as tiger prawns, tasty crab curry and grilled crayfish. Meat dishes such as beef and lamb are also on offer. The castaway picnics on the north on the island are highly recommended.
Breakfast and lunch are buffet style, while dinner is a set menu. Once again the lodge prides itself on personal attention and excellent service.
A dhow has been turned into a colorful beach bar, the perfect spot to watch the sunset beneath whispering coconut palms.
ROOMS
Benguerra Lodge has 10 casitas, 2 cabanas and a Zanzibar villa.
The casitas are set along the beach. Spacious and luxurious, this accommodation has a home away from home feel with a comfortable open-plan lounge area, shuttered windows to keep out the midday sun and a bathroom centered round a huge, shiny copper bathtub. Each casita has a 100 m2 timber deck with a pluge pool / Jacuzzi with fantastic sea views and an outdoor thatched gazebo for starlit dinners.
The 2-bedroomed exclusive villa is set away from the rest of the lodge, and is an excellent option for those seeking total privacy. A personal chef prepares all meals, which can then be enjoyed in the lounge and dining area, fitted with hand carved mahogany furniture. The villa has a private garden and direct beach access.
