TRAVEL ADVICE TO BOTSWANA
Visiting Botswana is trouble-free but one should be aware of the global risk of
indiscriminate international terrorist attacks, which could be against civilian
targets, including places frequented by foreigners.
Visitors should be aware of an increasing incidence of violent crime. Wildlife
and livestock on Botswana’s roads make driving hazardous. Avoid driving at
night.
This advice is based on information provided by the Foreign and Commonwealth
Office in the UK. It is correct at time of publishing. As the situation can
change rapidly, visitors are advised to contact the following organizations for
the latest travel advice:

PASSPORTS
Passports valid for at least six months required.
VISAS
Required the following:
(a) 1. Nationals of Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia,
Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovak Republic and Slovenia, who do need a visa);
(b) Transit passengers provided continuing their journey by the same or first
connecting aircraft and not leaving the airport.
BOTSWANA VISA REQUIREMENTS
Visitors entering Botswana must have a passport that is valid for at least six
months, except those with United Nations Convention travel documents. Visitors
must also have outgoing travel documents and sufficient funds to finance their
stay while in Botswana.
Valid entry visas for the countries which do require them are obtained from
Botswana's various embassies and high commissions abroad. In countries where
Botswana is not represented, visas may be obtained from the British High
Commission. Entry visas obtained at border posts are valid for a maximum of 30
to 90 days. Extensions may be obtained from any immigration office in Botswana.
No visitor is allowed more than a 90-day stay in every calendar year, unless
permission has been granted in the form of a waiver pending the outcome of a
residence permit application.
Citizens of the following countries do not require visas:

VISA NOTE
Nationals traveling to South  Africa, before or after entering Botswana, will
require two clear pages in their passport for the South African stamp.
Types of Visa and Cost
General Entry: £60 (single- or multiple-entry).
VALIDITY
Up to 90 days from the date of issue. Extensions are available from the
Department of
Immigration in Botswana.

Consulate (or consular section at embassy or high commission).

Most of the safari lodges in Botswana are found in Chobe  National Park, Moremi
Game Reserve and Okavango Delta, some are found in the Makgadikgadi Pans and
Tuli Block. Some of the lodges here have 40 permanent structures but the
majority are tented; they are invariably luxurious, comfortable and spacious,
with ensuite facilities.
Hotels
Hotels generally maintain a reasonable standard, particularly those in main
centers in the east of the country. The largest number of hotels and motels are
in or near Gaborone, Francis town, Kasane and Maun, some with air conditioning,
swimming pools and facilities for films, bands and entertainment. Many other
hotels have fairly basic amenities.
